Discover Bonnie View Inn: A Historic Haliburton Gem

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Haliburton Highlands in Ontario, Bonnie View Inn has been enchanting visitors for nearly 100 years with its captivating scenery and whimsical charm. But have you ever wondered how this hidden gem received its enchanting name?

How Bonnie View Inn Got Its Name

The story begins with an elderly Scottish woman, a beloved local resident, who found herself mesmerized by the natural beauty surrounding the inn. Sitting by the serene Lake Kashagawigamog, she gazed across the water at the majestic skyline of the Highlands, where a mosaic of trees crowned the landscape in vibrant greens and golds. As gentle waves lapped the shore and the treetops swayed in the breeze, she recalled the heather-covered hills of her homeland. With a heartfelt sigh, she whispered, “Aye, it’s a Bonnie View,” perfectly capturing the essence of the landscape’s charm. Today, countless visitors echo her sentiment, finding solace, renewal, and a peaceful escape from the busyness of everyday life.

A Legacy of Charm and Hospitality

Established in 1924, Bonnie View Inn accommodations began as a modest cottage on a sturdy stone foundation—still visible in the main lobby today. By 1943, expansion was underway, culminating in the main inn and 14 cozy cabins by 1945. The 1950s brought a playful twist, as the basement became a secret speakeasy adorned with authentic Scottish paintings.

Through the decades, the inn evolved. Chalets transformed into modern suite accommodations, and the waterside patio shifted from a “boatel” concept to a picturesque deck overlooking Lake Kashagawigamog. In 2020, ownership passed from Andrea Hagerty to the Yates/Brandt family, with Ryan Yates leading the hands-on, family-focused ethos that continues to define the property.

Since 1945, Bonnie View Inn has welcomed generations to the sparkling lakefront. Once one of 22 historic resorts in Haliburton, it now stands as the last remaining lodge, preserving the charm, traditions, and memories of a golden era in the Highlands.
